Section Info:
This course covers the computer skills required of a translator in today's Language Service Provider (LSP) environment, mastery of a variety of computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools and the SDL Trados suite. Begins with basic computer skills such as Windows OS management, file management, file types and extensions, back-up and archiving, word processing applications and basic web design. We then move into hands-on work with Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, with emphasis on the industry standard, SDL Trados Suite. Students will learn basic concepts such as how databases work and how computer programs work in order to better understand the tools. Windows laptop required with Windows XP or later.
