Section Title:
Aspirations to Leadership
Section Info:
Engineers need to be technically proficient and knowledgeable. But great engineers possess more than technical expertise to turn their ambitions and aspirations into reality. This course will focus on ways to develop the habits of mind and heart - emotional intelligence, initiative, curiosity and practical understanding - necessary to become a great engineering leader. Particular attention will be given to developing the innovation, creativity, courage and entrepreneurial capacities of students who see themselves as future leaders of student organizations here at Illinois, and in the work place. Students must enroll in either discussion section #60321 or #60322.

Engr for Global Development
Section Info:
This course will focus on developing products to serve the needs of those living in low-income communities, domestically and internationally. Rather than begin with a predetermined technology, this course will teach students to be bottom-up in beginning with life circumstances and cultural issues and then using such understanding to design engineering solutions. This learning experience is based on pioneering work at the University of Illinois including 15 years of research through the Subsistence Marketplaces Initiative (www.business.illinois.edu/subsistence), and extensive teaching and social initiatives.
