This course will use two texts as its basis, Metaphors We Live By and The Meaning of the Body - work by George Lakoff and Mark Johnson, as foundational texts to examine meaning and signs in the body as we create movement works that both adhere to "abstract" and "narrative" expressions of performance. We will view artists work, hear from invited guests, and discuss these concepts across disciplinary boundaries to inform our own production and examination of performance works.
