The sequence, CHEM 540 and CHEM 542, is designed to give seniors and graduate students a unified treatment of quantum mechanics and spectroscopy on an advanced level; topics in CHEM 540 include the electronic structure and spectra of atoms, principles of wave mechanics, experimental and theoretical aspects of the chemical bond in diatomic and polyatomic molecules, and molecular vebrations.
Prerequisite: CHEM 444 or equivalent.
