Leadership and Society

Credit: 1 hours.

The final of two enrichment courses in the James Scholar Encounter Series, designed to both challenge and engage students as they explore their own leadership potential. En route to becoming competent and agile learners, honors students will be provided with a foundation toward discovering one's voice, and readying oneself to make a difference in the realms of citizenship, stewardship and leadership. Reviews leadership development processes such that students become acquainted with leadership styles and can apply them to their own experiences, activities and person attributes. In researching social and global issues, the course serves as a means for students to become culturally aware and connected to the community and the world at large. Much of the learning will incorporate the concepts of service learning in connection with civic engagement. Students are expected to work together and individually on projects involving community partners and groups. Students will work with a small cohort of peer scholars in a one-hour weekly graded session.
