Topic: "Why Evolution is True" - This reading group has three aims. First, to read and discuss the multiple lines of evidence for evolution ranging from fossils, to DNA sequence similarity, to experimental studies examining the many facets of evolution. The second goal is to discuss how these ideas can be brought into a K-12 classroom and taught effectively. The third goal is to try to figure out where public misconceptions arise, and how these can be countered.

Coral Reef Field Ecology
Section Info:
A field course to coral reefs in Belize. An introduction to the taxonomic groups, identification, and natural history of the vertebrates and invertebrates that inhabit and form coral reefs. Ecosystem processes and conservation of coral reefs will also be discussed. The field trip to Belize will be Sunday May 15-Sunday May 22, 2011. Cost of the field trip is estimated to be $1850 and will be borne by the student. Prerequisite: IB 150 and consent of instructor. Student must be able to swim. To register for this you will need consent of the instructor. Email Christopher Taylor at ctaylor@inhs.uiuc.edu. Must be concurrently registered in IB 362 Marine Biology.
