Advanced Field Geology

Credit: 2 TO 4 hours.

Group field study in a prominent geologic locality; includes in-class meetings, student-led presentation, and field trip; trips run during spring break, winter break, mid-end May or intercession; dates depend on location.

May be repeated. Prerequisite: Consent of instructor. Field trip fee required.

Field Trip Fee estimated to be $800 - $2500, depending on the destination and duration of the trip.

Credit: 4 hours Section Info: Field trip to Cyprus during 2011 Spring Break. The class will explore the nature of the oceanic crust and uppermantle through field study of this classic example of an ophiolite. The trip assumes a background in geology and is intended primarily for geology majors and graduate students. Prerequisites: At least one 400-level geology course, and permission of the instructor. 4 hrs. Field trip fee required and exact amount to be determined, approximately $1100.
