Reading and interpretation of selected French novels and short narratives from all periods. History and analysis of narrative literature as a genre. Topics will vary.

May be repeated to a maximum of 6 hours. Prerequisite: FR 207, FR 208, FR 209, and FR 210; or equivalents.

"Litterature fantastique" This course will focus on the narrative genre of the fantastic in nineteenth-century French literature. Readings will include works by Nodier, Balzac, Gautier, Villiers de l Isle-Adam, Merimee, and others. All readings, discussions, and assignments will be in French.
