Contemporary theory and research on the life course of social gatherings ranging from small scale and local to nationwide collective actions by people in pursuit of social and political change. Discusses the logic of practice in political, religious and street crowds; collective action of disperse people; and broad-based revolutionary mobilizations. Cases include pre-modern and modern movements from the western and non-western societies.

3 undergraduate hours. 4 graduate hours. Prerequisite: SOC 200, or equivalent, or consent of instructor.
