Books on corporate power, urban political corruption, rural poverty, the atomic bombing of Japan, Watergate, the death penalty, and a soldiers-eye view of the Iraq war, to name a few. From hard-edged investigations to nonfiction literature. Class includes readings from eight groundbreaking books, assessment of impact, analysis of reporting and writing approaches, and extensive class discussion. Eight essays, no tests. Restriction(s): Not intended for students with Freshman class standing.
