This course will expose students to real world case studies involving the management of three ecosystems: forest, aquatic, and agricultural ecosystems in a developing country, particularly the Philippines. The course will include a preparatory class during the spring semester, followed by a three-week trip between May to June (cost estimated at $3,500, scholarships may be available). The preparatory class will acquaint students with the issues, concerns, and problems pertinent these endangered natural resource ecosystems. During this time, and prior to the trip, students will be linked up with students at the University of the Philippines to initiate a collaborative project, which will be continued and completed during the trip. Lectures are provided online and are videotaped from an on-campus sustainability series and are to be viewed weekly prior to discussion sessions on Tuesdays (for those not living locally and cannot attend them live).
