Topic: Mapping Movement: "Representations of Wandering in French Literature" In this course, we will examine how literature attempts to represent the wanderer, all the while enclosing him or her within the framework of language and narrative. By mapping the wanderer's movements, does the literary text recreate society's control over the individual? Readings by Diderot, Rousseau, Balzac, Nerval, Baudelaire, Rimbaud, Sand, Breton, along with critical readings.
