Inequality, Poverty and Social Exclusion: This course has two main components. First, it will provide a critical review and analysis of sociological approaches to social inequality, poverty and social exclusion. Here we will focus on concepts such as social class, race/ethnicity, gender, absolute poverty, relative poverty and social exclusion. Secondly, we will examine how and why certain demographic groups are susceptible to poverty and social exclusion through case studies mainly from the US and Europe but also from other parts of the world.
