Credit: 1 OR 2 hours.

Field based course that exposes students to procedures and methods used in various resource settings in a hands-on manner. Includes weekly field trips to visit representative natural resource and environmental science settings with supporting laboratory exercises. Content of offerings vary by section, but all focus on resource management, environmental quality and assessment, and effects of consumption and use on the environment.

Field trips required; fees required. May be repeated in the same or subsequent semesters to a maximum of 6 hours. Prerequisite: NRES 201 and NRES 219.

Additional Field Trip Fee Required.

Community Stewardship-Env Ed In this service learning course, students visit area schools (grades 4-8) to teach students about the impacts of introduced species using science-based information and facilitate student-developed community stewardship projects to help reduce the spread of aquatic invaders. Guest scientists and the Nab the Aquatic Invader! Web site (www.sgnis.org/kids) will serve as the foundation for the course. Students are responsible for their own transportation. Field Exper. Suburban-Ponds
Section Info:
Stormwater drainage ponds are prominent features of suburban neighborhoods. Water quality, wildlife interactions, and people are all connected in these micro-ecosystems. Students will learn field techniques to assess homeowner perceptions and actions and to measure water quality (including impacts of wildlife and lawn care). Field work will be conducted in neighborhoods in southwest Champaign. This course meets Wednesdays, 1-1:50 lecture, 2-5 lab. Work will be required on 2-3 Saturdays (dates to be announced).
