Major themes of Central American history since conquest: the Colonial regime, ethnic diversity, the independence movement, fragmentation in the nineteenth century, export economies and imperialism, 1880-1932, social movements and populism in the twentieth century, revolution and intervention since the 1950s.

Prerequisite: One year of college history or consent of instructor.
