Hospitalized Children

Credit: 3 OR 4 hours.

Examines the development needs and stress reactions of children in hospitals and their families; introduces the role of Child Life programs and the Child Life Specialist; examines responses of family and staff facing terminal illness and the death of a child; familiarizes students with general hospital procedures, medical terms, and illnesses. Optional one-hour clinical placement includes direct experience with hospitalized children and their families. Prerequisite: HDFS 206 and HDFS 208.
