GEOL 552

Fall 2010 All Classes

All Classes

Credit: 4 hours.

Addresses dynamical characteristics of the solid earth. Mathematical theories will be developed that describe large scale deformation, both on the surface and within the interior of the earth. Theoretical predictions will be compared with observations to delineate: the internal properties of the earth; driving mechanism of plate tectonics and the origin of various geological processes such as volcanism, mountain building and basin formation.

Prerequisite: MATH 285, PHYS 211, GEOL 452, or consent of instructor.
