Field Geology

Credit: 2 TO 8 hours.

Group field study in a prominent geologic locality; includes in-class meetings, student-led presentation, and field trip; trips run during spring break, winter break, in mid-end May or intercession; dates depend on location.

May be repeated. Prerequisite: Consent of instructor. Field trip fee required.

Field Trip Fee estimated to be $800 - $2500, depending on the destination and duration of the trip.

Credit: 4 hours Section Info: Field trip to Arizona and California. The class will include lectures about the regional geologic history of the Cordillera in the United States, and a full week trip to the Basin and Range of western Arizona, as well as the San Andreas fault and Death Valley in California. We will be camping in isolated desert locations for the duration of the trip. The trip assumes a background in geology and is intended primarily for geology majors and graduate students. Prerequisites: At least one 400-level geology course, and permission of the instructor. 4hrs.
