ASTR 496/596 Research Techniques in the Virtual Observatory Era The Virtual Observatory (VO) is an emerging environment for conducting astronomical research over the network, taking advantage of the vast variety data and services on-line. Students will be introduced to the latest VO tools and services, and they will acquire the essential computing skills for making the most of the VO, including basic scripting, database analysis techniques, data visualization, and data publishing. Students will apply these skills in small groups to conduct a VO-based research project.
