The course will apply some basic microeconomic analysis to an understanding of the law. We will cover property law, contracts, torts, and the concept of crime and punishment. In each case, we'll study the economic incentives presented by the existing U.S. law and some alternatives, and analyze what provisions of the law would best facilitate market transactions and other decisions by individuals that maximize economic efficiency. To do this, we cover some welfare economics, externalities, and public goods. We will also learn just a bit of game theory and other analytical tools that are useful to evaluate existing law and reform proposals. Restriction(s): Restricted to Accountancy or Economics or Finance or Business Administration major(s). Not intended for students with Freshman or Sophomore class standing.

Students will use excel features and built-in functions to build models in the Time Value of Money, Financial Statements Forecasting, Value at Risk, Ratio Analysis, Bond Pricing and Duration, and Options Pricing.
