Junior Seminar in Art History

Offers Art History majors grounding in the discipline' s historiography and exposure to diverse historical methods. Provides students with experience in a range of research techniques as preparation for their Senior Seminar.

Prerequisite: Junior standing in Art History curriculum or in Art History minor.

The purpose of the Junior Seminar is to offer Art History majors an introduction to the history of art as a discipline and to the diverse methods that are used by art historians in the field today. It also provides preparation for the required Senior Capstone course. Together these two courses guide students through the process of learning how to conduct research in the discipline and how to engage with its past and current scholarly debates. In addition to the historical and theoretical work of the class, each student will research, write and present their own 15-20 page paper. Restriction(s): Restricted to History of Art major(s).
