Topic: Understanding Visual Literacy. This course is centered around the perception, decoding, and interpretation of visual culture from the media landscape. The focus of the course will be on becoming adept at the analysis and deconstruction of visual messages in popular culture and the study of tropes and narratives that recur through media in history. It will do so by applying tools afforded through cognitive theory, perceptual theory, semiotics, and through cultural, ethical, and technical perspectives.
