Introduction to Jewelry/Metal I, 3 hours. This introductory jewelry course focuses on the design and execution of jewelry and related objects through fabrication. Students will investigate surface embellishment, assembly techniques, and finishing processes. Traditional and alternative materials for jewelry will be presented. Students will be introduced to historical and contemporary work of other cultures through slide lectures and readings. Additionally, students will be encouraged to explore jewelry as a medium of personal aesthetic expression. First Year Discovery Program Course. Registration restricted to freshmen.
