Credit: 4 hours.

Data abstractions: elementary data structures: lists, stacks, queues, trees; searching and sorting techniques. Introduction to the principles of software engineering including term programming project.

Prerequisite: CS 125 or ECE 190; CS 173 or MATH 213.

Students must register for one lecture-discussion and one lecture section.

Students choosing to participate in this pilot study will be involved in a research project exploring the potential for using Tablet PC's to collect data from students in UIUC classrooms and use that data to create useful computer applications for learning. The study will explore the kinds of data that can be collected and used to better design instruction, improve the responsiveness of professors, and help students learn more effectively and efficiently. Students enrolled in this pilot course will attend lectures in the Educational Technologies Laboratory in Siebel Center 1129 which is equipped with tablet computers for use by each student and the instructor. Students will use their tablets for note taking and other course related activities. The instructor will use a tablet to present his lecture. Please note that attendance is mandatory for the scheduled lectures and for the laboratory section.
