Social origins and consequences of law and legal process, emphasizing problems of legal change and structure and function of legal sanctions. Law and law-like phenomena in primitive and modern societies.

3 undergraduate hours. 2 or 4 graduate hours. Prerequisite: SOC 100 or six hours of anthropology, social geography, political science, or sociology.
