Section Info:
An innovative survey of two key features of Western civilization, democratic structures and government economic policy, from antiquity to the present. Students will examine the origins of the democracies of ancient Greece and Rome and the United States; the economies that engendered and nourished them; and the Greco-Roman influence on both American democracy and modern economic theory. Several UIUC faculty will contribute lectures and lead discussions, along with a guest lecturer, in conjunction with a campus visit by Steve Forbes.
