Credit: 4 hours.
Examines child welfare policies and practice in relation to social services which support, supplement, or substitute for parental care of children. A particular focus is on the ongoing evolution of social policy regarding the role of the state in managing relationships between children and their caregivers, particularly with respect to vulnerable and/or stigmatized populations (e.g., the poor, single-parent families, families of color, sexual minorities).
