Credit: 0 TO 4 hours.

Designed to improve the international student's ability to speak and understand English at normal conversational speed and to give the student the ability to continue improving pronunciation skills after the course is finished. Focus on the rhythm, stress, intonation, and sounds of natural speech, and the use of ordinary English spelling to guide the pronunciation of newly encountered words.

Student must be an undergraduate to receive credit. Students should consult their college concerning use of credit from this course. Prerequisite: Recommendation from UIUC English as a Second Language Placement Test.

Proof of eligibility must be brought to the first meeting of the class. No student will be permitted to remain in the class who does not take the Diagnostic Test administered during the first three class meetings.
