Section Info:
Topic: Art, Community, and Global Civil Society is a think tank/creative lab for an exploration of the interface of art, culture, technology, and contemporary ideas about citizenship. Class meets for three hours each week and consists of instructor and student presentations; discussions with premier scholars, social activists, and artists drawn from a wide variety of scholarly disciplines across the UIUC campus and from the greater Champaign-Urbana community; visits to local sites of interest; in-class inquiries and debates; and student research and creative work. Art, Community, and Global Civil Society culminates in student collaboratively designed webzines, blogs, or digital video documentaries on topics of student's choosing, and that convey student's insights about community life an increasingly globalized world. No prior artistic experience is required to be successful in this course, and technology users at any levels, including novices, are encouraged to enroll. Prerequisites for enrollment in this course include: an inquisitive mind, a sense of adventure, and a burning desire to make a difference in the world.
