(RHET 105) Study of the methods of exposition, the problems of argument, the use of evidence, and style; practice in expository writing. This course fulfills the Campus Composition I general education requirement.

Credit is not given for RHET 105 and either RHET 108 or SPCM 111 and SPCM 112.

Students whose second language is english should take an english placement test through the division of english as an international language, before signing up for rhetoric. Note: Transfer students who have not yet taken a college composition class elsewhere, should contact the U of I testing office to arrange to take a placement exam. Transfer students who have taken composition from another institution, but have not fully satisfied the U or I comp I requirement can take the transfer writing test for proficiency credit. Engineering students must obtain a dean's approval to drop this course after the second week of instruction.
