(HIST 271) Examines the history of African American women, beginning with the West African background during the transatlantic slave trading era, emphasizing the experiences of black women in the United States during slavery and their political, civic, community and reform activities from slavery to the present, analyzed within the context of racism, sexism, and economic deprivation. African women in the diaspora, and the impact of feminism/womanism, Afrocentrism, and multicultural diversity on the African American woman are considered.
