Topic: Exploring Public Art in Urban Settings. This course explores contemporary public art in urban areas of the midwest. Visits to St. Louis, Chicago, Milwaukee and Minneapolis, its museums, parks, and sculpture gardens are the inspiration for the development of site specific art proposal with the focus on a scale model. Topic: The Artist Book. Location: Oaxaca, Mexico. This is an intensive 3 week course that offers participants a unique opportunity to travel and study in the city/state of Oaxaca de Juarez and the surrounding regions. Utilizing the ancient Mixtec picture manuscripts as a focus to research aspects of visual literacy, historical, and cultural information class time will consist of lectures, travel and studio components.
