(G E 380) Focuses on the application of optimization techniques to engineering design problems. Emphasis is placed on problem formulation primarily in structural and mechanical engineering applications. Important theoretical results and numerical optimization methods are covered. Weekly computer programming assignments (using the Matlab programming language) develop software for solving nonlinear mathematical programming problems.
