Politics & Ethics, Freedom & Responsibility The course addresses the themes of politics and ethics, freedom and responsibility in classical, modern, and contemporary political theory. What, if any, relationship exists between political and ethical action? What does it mean to live freely? to live responsibly? We explore different, sometimes competing, answers to these questions in the teachings of Sophocles, Socrates, Machiavelli, Hobbes, Tocqueville, Thoreau, Martin Luther King Jr., and Hannah Arendt.
