Credit: 4 hours.

(MATSE 400) Presents the atomistic concepts of statistical thermodynamics and shows its relationship to classical phenomenological thermodynamics. Applies the methods of statistical thermodynamics and statistical mechanics to describe the properties of a variety of materials, especially ceramics, polymers, electronic materials and metals.

Prerequisite: Undergraduate course in thermodynamics or consent of instructor.
