Topic: Memory and the Construction of Identity and Culture. The age-old concern to grasp memory and how it serves in the construction of identity and culture is now at the cutting-edge in many disciplines within the humanities, the sciences, law, medicine, and the arts. This faculty and graduate student seminar will take an interdisiplinary look at selected memory topics, such as autobiography, testimony, preservation, forgetting, trauma, revision, and distortion. Faculty who are concerned with memory in different disciplines will take turns leading the discussion. This course is part of a year-long initiative that includes a public events series.
