PHYCS 389. Introduction to Solid State Physics
Bonding and structure of crystals; energy bands in insulators, semiconductors, and metals; electrical conductivity; optical properties; lattice vibrations; elasticity; point defects; dislocations.
Prerequisite: Junior standing in science or engineering, or equivalent.
4 hours or 1 unit.
(Offered Fall semester only).
Students may not receive credit for both PHYCS 389 and MATSE 204.
