PHYCS 361. Thermodynamics and Statistical Mechanics

Course in statistical and thermal physics designed primarily for advanced undergraduates; topics include equilibrium thermodynamics, statistical mechanics, and kinetic theory of gases. A unified treatment is used in that the principles of heat and thermodynamics are discussed along with statistical postulates and the microscopic approach of introductory quantum mechanics.

Prerequisite: Two 300-level courses in physics or consent of instructor.
4 hours or 1 unit. Credit is not given for both PHYCS 361 and any of the following: M E 301, CHEM 342 and CHEM 344, and MATSE 400.
