Intro to Computational Ling

Credit: 3 or 4 hours.
Introduces the field of natural language processing and computational linguistics. Topics include finite-state methods, parsing, probabilistic methods, machine learning in NLP, computational semantics and applications of NLP technology. The course is mostly about concepts rather than programming, though some programming assignments will be given. 3 undergraduate hours. 4 graduate hours. Prerequisite: LING 400 or equivalent; and LING 402 or a C S 100-level programming course, or consent of instructor.
