Topic: Advanced Drawing. This advanced studio course will consider how the ideas and methods of "traditional drawing" are being used in a more contemporary context. Students will explore a broad variety of materials and concepts as they work on in-class projects and outside assignments. We will look at the work of a number of contemporary artists to see how they are redefining "what drawing can be? as well as considering why drawing is often given "top billing" in the contemporary art world. In addition, there will be a variety of readings on such topics as the new ?interconnectedness? between drawing and design, and why it is that drawing is often seen as a subversive, even obscene act. Undergraduate Section.
